Abstract

In the grammatical system of language, the verb is an intriguing yet complex element, as its multifaceted function often leads to the subtle intertwining of temporal, modal, and aspectual nuances. The verb is examined both in terms of its structural appearance and internal features. This article aims to foster a proper understanding of verb aspect, its functionality, and its significance in language, while distinguishing it from the concepts of tense and mood. The methodology employed in this article is predominantly library-based, with a focus on analytical and descriptive approaches. The findings of this article reveal that verb aspect, from various perspectives, resides within the inherent capacity of the verb to convey specific temporal meanings. Lexical aspects, verbal aspects, and semantic features signify the momentary and durative nature of the verb. Syntactic aspects represent different ways of viewing the execution of an action, encompassing completeness, incompleteness, continuity, and interruption of the verb. The function of verb aspects differs from the tense and mood, as it illustrates the manner of occurrence and the meaning of the verb.
