Abstract

Higher education in Afghanistan is subject to various perspectives regarding its many challenges. Education experts commonly attribute these challenges to historical, political, cultural, social, administrative, and managerial factors. These challenges include a shortage of academic staff with advanced degrees, reliance on traditional teaching methods, credibility issues with teaching materials in light of modern scientific standards, an inadequate range of academic disciplines aligned with labor market needs and societal demands, imposition of predefined academic fields on new students, disparities in academic discipline distribution, imprecise educational policies and leadership, legislative inadequacies governing higher education, mismanagement of scientific institutions, inadequate recognition of professors and scientists, insufficient material rights and privileges for professors, and a shortage of critical thinking and inquiry culture. This research adopts an explanatory-analytical approach to examine these multifaceted challenges confronting higher education in Afghanistan comprehensively.
