Abstract

The exchange rate is one of the most important variables in determining the volume of imports and exports, and its fluctuations can increase or decrease foreign trade, which can also affect a country's trade balance. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the exchange rate on Afghanistan's trade balance. The data used in this study cover the first quarter of 2008 to the fourth quarter of 2023, and the total number of observations is 60, collected quarterly (seasonally). This study is estimated using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) method. The results from the model estimation show that the exchange rates for Afghanistan's imports and exports, and its trade balance, are completely meaningless.
