Abstract

Imam Abu Hanifa and most scholars agree that faith consists of belief in the heart and profession by the tongue. However, they disagree on whether deeds are a part of faith or merely a requirement of faith. Since the majority consider deeds part of faith, they state that faith is susceptible to increase and decrease. However, from the perspective of Imam Abu Hanifa, faith is belief and profession; therefore, he does not accept that faith can increase or decrease. This article attempts to answer the question of whether, according to Imam Abu Hanifa, faith can increase or decrease. The hypothesis in answering this question is negative. This article aims to respond to the question of whether faith can increase or decrease from the viewpoint of Imam Abu Hanifa. The importance of this research lies in the author's desire to dispel the accusation of opposition to the verses of the Quran, the Prophetic Hadiths, and the views of the Companions leveled against the luminous figure of Islamic scholarship, Imam Abu Hanifa, in this regard. The methodology employed in this article is analytical and descriptive, utilizing the books of Abu Hanifa himself and works on theology. The findings of this research demonstrate that the claims of Imam Abu Hanifa's opponents are baseless and unfounded.
