Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the causes of cheating among students of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Science, Kabul University. Descriptive research method was used and 186 students were selected as sample for the current study. Stephens and Golbach (2007) cheating attitude questionnaire was used to collect the necessary data. The variance of repeated measurements and independent t-tests were used to analyze the data. The results showed that score orientation, intense competitive climate, and lack of learning motivation were the most causes of cheating among the participants. This study also found that older students cheat more than younger students. Moreover, no statistically significant difference was observed between male and female students. These findings emphasize the existing climate in the educational environment promotes the culture of academic cheating. Identification of causes of cheating in first years decreases the cheating culture in educational environment.
