Journal Description

The Department of Academic Journals at Kabul University was first established in 1979 (1358 AH) under the General Directorate of Publications, tasked with overseeing the publication of scientific journals in both the natural and social sciences. Since then, it has played an important role in facilitating scholarly contributions from faculty members across diverse disciplines. After a period of inactivity during the 1990s due to national conflicts, the department resumed its operations in 2002 (1381 AH) and gradually expanded its publishing activities.

In response to a significant increase in article submissions, the department was reorganized in 2018 (1397 AH) into two independent units for Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. This separation allowed for greater specialization and focus in each domain. In 2023 (1402 AH), following a broader institutional reform at Kabul University and the establishment of the Vice-Chancellor Office for Academic Research, the Journal Office was upgraded to the Department of Academic Journals. This organizational advancement has resulted in better coordination, streamlined processes, and improved alignment with international publishing standards.

Between 2023 and 2024 (1402–1403 AH), key steps were taken to modernize and internationalize the journal. As part of this initiative, the Journal of Social Sciences – Kabul University was equipped with its own official website in 2024 (1403 AH), and both print and electronic ISSNs were obtained. Each published article now receives a DOI, ensuring greater accessibility and traceability. The journal is freely available online to both national and international audiences at https://jss.edu.af, and is indexed in reputable academic databases such as Google Scholar, Crossref, BASE, and others—greatly enhancing its visibility, discoverability, and citation potential.
